I didn't start this business with a five-year plan.
I started it with a really bad year and a promise I fully intended to keep.
Two weeks sober and still drowning in shame, I sat in a stale hotel room in Valencia and wrote a goodbye letter to my husband and kids.
Grace had other plans. My best friend showed up, refused to take no for an answer, and took me out for frozen yogurt like that was going to fix anything. (It kind of did.) My mentor showed up too — with her daughters, a pizza, and the sentence that rearranged my whole life: "You have too much to offer this world to quit now."
That night I made God a deal: help me find peace, and I'll spend the rest of my life helping other people find theirs. That's not a mission statement. That's a promise I've been keeping ever since, one gloriously messy client at a time.
Looking back, I can see exactly how I got there. I was always the one people told their real stuff to. I wanted to be a priest once, before I found out that wasn't in the cards for me. And my uncle — the one who helped raise me — used to tell me I had "the it factor," long before he died. Some days, this whole career feels like carrying his light forward instead of just grieving it.
